The thirteenth anime episode of Claymore, adapted from the manga by Norihiro Yagi. The episode was first broadcast on June 26, 2007 and was directed by Hiroyuki Tanaka and produced by Madhouse Studios. It was dubbed by Funimation and released on DVD Volume 3 in January 23, 2009.
Clare is seen running away from Ophelia; however, the latter soon catches up with her. Ophelia attacks and wounds her easily, even though Clare can predict her movements. Ophelia shows Clare her "Rippling Sword," which is performed by vibrating the sword arm at high speed, causing the blade to appear as if it's rippling like a snake. In the ensuing struggle, Clare loses her right arm and falls from a cliff, but it is revealed that she did it on purpose to fake her death and let Ophelia think she dealt the finishing blow. Unfortunately, Ophelia sees through Clare's trick at the last moment, and before Clare can grab her arm, the other Claymore dismembers it. Out of desperation, Clare starts attacking Ophelia, but doesn't land not even a single hit. In the end, even her remaining left hand is cut off and she can't defend herself any longer. As Ophelia is about to perform the finishing blow, taunting Clare about her reasons for survival, calling them "Delusions of the weak"; a stranger appears, saying that she sensed a familiar presence. Ophelia is annoyed by the random wanderer and carelessly attacks, not knowing that the stranger was no other than the former No. 2-3 of the Organization, Quicksword Irene. In mere seconds, Ophelia is quickly overwhelmed and incapacitated by Irene's high-speed sword attack.
When Clare wakes up, she finds herself lying on a bed in a cottage with her left hand attached again. Irene appears and tells her that she had reattached her hand right before she passed out. Irene then gives her food and tells her to recover, but also mentions that Ophelia is not dead yet - only maimed to the point that she is forced to awaken. She leaves the cottage and uses her Quicksword again. Shortly afterwards, Clare and Irene talk about Teresa and Clare reveals her reason why she joined the Organization.
In the night, Ophelia is seen crawling on the ground, still heavily injured by Irene and crying for her brother to save her. Suddenly, she gets angry, cursing her brother and the one horned monster who ate her brother's guts. She starts releasing her Yoki in rage and to survive from her wounds which eventually leads to her Awakening. The next day, Irene trains Clare using the Quicksword.
